It was formed in 2007 and consists of 5 regular and 3 reserve battalions. Each battalion of The Rifles was formerly an individual battalion of one of 2 large regiments of the Light Division, with the exception of the 1st Battalion which is an amalgamation of 2 individual regiments. Many of The Rifles' Battalions have been deployed in Iraq (during some of the worst
