An inner key seats in the shaft keyway to prevent the washer from rotating, while one of the outer tabs is bent down into a slot of the mating locknut to positively lock the assembly and resist loosening from vibration, shock, and torque. Matched with KM, KML, and KMM metric locknuts, it delivers
